Dogbone Mounts

Why is everyone who drives slower than me an idiot, and everyone who drives faster a maniac?

*      Dogbone mount, Part No. BmF006

I replaced my EIP motor mount with a dogbone mount from BmF Technik.  I replaced it because the price was right and I felt it was better constructed.  The BmF dogbone was installed at around 35k miles.

*      Impressions:  I could immediately feel extra vibration, primarily at the steering wheel and in the pedals, most noticeable at idle.  The vibration was no where near what I would describe as being excessive or bothersome.  There is less engine movement under hard acceleration.

*      VW MkIV/R32 modified lower rear transmission mount

I had this installed at 3400 miles and was quite satisfied with it.  I chose this dogbone mount because it was reported to be not as stiff as other brands—thereby minimizing vibrations—and because it was relatively inexpensive.  EIP also installed it for free.

*      Impressions: Immediately after installation I could feel the difference.  It was most noticeable shifting from 1st to 2nd.  There was greatly decreased engine hop with quick accelerations.  As reported, I didn’t notice any new vibrations after installation.

*      This mount was installed for about 30k miles, and probably could have lasted longer but I thought it was time for something a little more aggressive, and other issues made me not quite as satisfied with it as I had been.

*      I didn’t have a close look at the mount before installing it, and I wouldn’t have known what to look for if I had, but after removing this mount I noticed that the forward bushing is absent.  You can check out the BmF dogbone for comparison.
